WHAT'S HAPPENING ON SAN PEDRO
THE FUTURE OF SAN ANTONIO
San Pedro is at the center of transformative developments that are driving movement, revitalizing communities, and reshaping the future of San Antonio.
The VIA Rapid Green Line, a $384 million, 11.7-mile transit project, is set to reshape mobility along San Pedro, introducing dedicated bus lanes, 26 new stations, and pedestrian-friendly improvements. More than just an infrastructure upgrade, it’s an opportunity to rethink how transit can shape development, activate underutilized spaces, and create a more walkable, business-friendly corridor. By reducing reliance on cars and making public transit more efficient and reliable, the Green Line encourages denser, mixed-use development that supports housing, retail, and public spaces around its stations.
This model, known as Transit-Oriented Development (TOD), is a key strategy for revitalizing urban corridors. TOD prioritizes walkability, accessibility, and mixed-use spaces, ensuring that transit hubs become the anchors of thriving neighborhoods rather than just stops along a route. Along the Green Line, underused lots and vacant buildings can be transformed into multifamily housing, storefronts, offices, and public plazas, creating a district where people live, work, and gather—all within a short walk of reliable transit. By fostering compact, pedestrian-friendly communities, TOD makes the corridor more vibrant while also supporting economic growth, reducing congestion, and making the area more sustainable.
Further fueling this momentum is the San Antonio Missions’ new $160 million stadium, planned near San Pedro Creek. More than just a ballpark, it represents a major investment in the district’s future, driving foot traffic, attracting new businesses, and encouraging even more development. Positioned within the growing transit network, the stadium reinforces the vision of a connected, urban San Pedro corridor, where major destinations, housing, and businesses work together to create a thriving, high-energy district.
Together, these projects aren’t just about improving transportation or adding new developments—they’re about redefining San Pedro as a modern, connected urban corridor. The Green Line, TOD initiatives, and the Missions stadium are sparking a movement, creating the potential for a district where people don’t just pass through—they stay, engage, and build the future of San Antonio.
